Why this book

Growth without the hype.

Your feed is full of growth hacks. This book is about the other part: steady work, done consistently, by a clinical team and a business side that connect.

The name comes from Blake's own double jaw surgery. The idea goes back to 2006: think first about who you serve and why, the top jaw that stays put. Then take action, the bottom jaw that does the moving. You need both.

Top jaw. The thinking

It stays put. Who the right patient is, what they search and ask, and what they need to hear first.

Bottom jaw. The action

It does the moving. Getting in front of that patient, the website they land on and the follow-up, then measuring and tuning what works.

What it covers

Four ideas from the patient side of the chair.

  1. 01

    Both sides have to meet

The clinical side and the business side have to meet, or the practice falls short of what it is worth.

  2. 02

    The work nobody posts about

Growth is not the hack on your feed. It is unglamorous work, done consistently.

  3. 03

    Change feels worse first

Change in a practice is uncomfortable before it is better. That is part of the work, not a sign it is failing.

  4. 04

    One team, not two

A strong clinical team can't carry a disconnected business side, and the reverse is true too.

The author

Blake Hickey.

Founder of Double Jaw Marketing and in marketing since 2006. The Double Jaw Method is his upcoming book and the method behind his work. He had double jaw surgery and adult orthodontic treatment himself, and the book takes its central idea from that experience.

After surgery, everything he ate went through a blender. He called them meat shakes and brought his NutriBullet with him when he went out. That recovery is why his practice resources start with the patient's questions.
